Procurement Perils

I had an interesting conversation today that I wanted to run by you all while at the same time offering our management team up to run the gauntlet of your Procurement Team.

As I was saying, I was chatting with a member of a main contractor’s procurement team, we were discussing changing the mindset of staff who repeatedly use the same 2 or 3 companies on site.

As you are aware bringing in new blood is great for increasing the competition in the tendering process while at the same time enabling you to have more contractors to call on as and when required.  You may often find a company that you wished you had met before and go on to use many times over the years.

Sadly, in this case I was told about a contractor that passed their intense qualification process, ended up with a contract and a start date on site.  Cutting a long story short, it turned out to be an expensive waste of time as the sub-contractor in question was late in delivery and a complete bust on site.  This hurt the main contractor’s reputation and ended up straining the relationship with a longstanding client.

This gave me the idea to encourage the management team to make themselves available to visit (and be grilled by) any person / company out there who is seriously interested in bringing on board a Structural Demolition contractor who will consistently deliver on time, at cost, with no fuss.  (Available from the 3rd July to meet).
